The Enneagram is used as a tool to help humans find who they are through personal and collective transformation (Sheppard, 99). Humans are continuously growing and evolving through the process of trial and error, but their personality type is usually fixed during the ages from two to eight (Sheppard, 99). The compulsions of every human defines their Enneagram type number (Parke, 33). The Enneagram consists of nine different acts of self-creation (Parke, 9). These nine acts signify nine different psychological states of ways of living. Although all life is one, it is lived in nine different ways (Parke, 33). Everyone posses one of the nine personalities, which all differ significantly from each other from the way each type thinks, feels and acts (Parke, 9). The connecting states to an Enneagram type represents how a person can travel to the two connecting states when they are in a healthy or unhealthy state (Parke 141). Theses two different points are often referred to as the stress point and heart point (Parke 142). The circle stands as a reminder of the ultimate unity of all of the different Enneagram types (Parke,10). Although the types all differ in many way, the world is an adventure full of individual and community affairs that tie all the Enneagram types together (Parke, 10). There are several tools available that can help people identify their Enneagram number, but it can be a confusing process when people have some characteristics that can fit into several types of Enneagrams. People who struggle to find their Enneagram type will find that further reflection and tools will help them find their true personalities over time (Parke, 49).
