Entrepreneur Sam Walton got his humble beginnings by opening a small retail store located in Newport, Arkansas back in 1945. Later he began to amass other small retail stores in other rural communities bearing his name, but by 1962 Sam Walton and his brother James Walton partnered to open the Wal-Mart Discount City. Due to swift growth the Wal-Mart Discount stores was numbered to approximately eighteen stores by 1970. Furthermore, they were generating 44 million dollars in sales. Sam Walton was able to further extend his business by opening the Sam’s Wholesale Club, which is an exclusive membership store offering discounted products in a warehouse environment. The stores known today as Wal-Mart is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas
