The detrimental impacts of human-generated pollution on our environment and what the world is doing about it
The world is becoming more and more aware of the detrimental impacts of human-generated pollution. Most of the energy we use comes from burning fossil fuels that causes air pollution, smog, acid rain, global warming and other adverse environmental impacts. The availability of clean water is quickly diminishing with pollution and increased demand due to population growth. With all of these negative affects the evidence points to an extremely destructive future for our environment and quality of life that has triggered public concern.
The health of the world’s water supplies available for human consumption, irrigation or recreation is not well. Roughly, half of the world’s population has been affected by drinking water pollution causing 5-10 million deaths per year and over 250 million cases of water related diseases (Montoya, 2011). Beaches are closed and lakes are too polluted to go swimming or fishing. Land-based activities like runoff from parking lots, roads, and farms account for 80% of the pollution in the world’s oceans (Montoya, 2011). Air pollution has become an environmental health risk in many parts of the world, causing 7 million deaths in 2012. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, emissions

NATO recognizes that it faces many environmental challenges. Over the years, Allied countries have established several NATO groups to tackle environmental challenges from different angles (NATO, 2014). Some of NATO 's current natural environment activities are protecting the environment from damaging effects of military operations, promoting environmentally friendly management practices in training areas and during operations and preparing for and responding to natural and man-made disasters (NATO,
