I am writing to express my interest for the Ph.D. position in your lab. I have graduated with merit in M.Sc. Medical Genetics program in September 2012 from the University of Glasgow (UK). Since the completion of my M.Sc. degree, I have been looking for the opportunities to pursue my research interest in the field of epigenetics. An opportunity to pursue Ph.D. in your lab with its focus on the epigenetic regulation in development, matches my career and research aspirations. I am highly interested in the project titled “Discovering function of novel epigenetic regulators in development” as it complements my academic and research interest. Epigenetic mechanism captivated my interest in particular, when I read about its role in neurodevelopmental disorders during the M.Sc. program. This led me to explore the role played by epigenetic silencing in a neurodegenerative disorder Friedreich’s ataxia in my M.Sc. dissertation. In the dissertation, I had suggested a stem cell model to identify the dislocation of a binding protein called Cohesin at the Frataxin (FXN) gene locus. Use of ChIP-Seq technique was suggested to analyze the dislocation of the protein. Furthermore, during the dissertation write-up, I have also communicated positively with an external research group at the Scripps Research Institute (USA), which has further encouraged me to pursue my doctoral studies in the field of epigenetics. …show more content…

I have worked in groups during the problem based learning modules. I have presented seminars, and did a poster presentation on my dissertation too. I have also gained experience in different genetics and molecular biology lab techniques. Furthermore, as a part of continued professional development, I have also completed an online program on Epigenetic Control of Gene Expression with distinction (100%), which has further sparked my interest in the field of
