This made Equality find out who he is and gave him the chance to be an individual. Equality’s views and mindset changes through out the book. He was born in a society where people are named by numbers. A world where people are used as machines. In this world the word “I” is out of existence.
Equality’s greatest strengths and personal qualities were intended to be restricted and abhorred. Indeed, Equality and his gifts were abhorred, but he found a way to circumvent each restriction, consciously or not. And, though he maintained use of his strengths and kept a strong spirit, Equality was never able to permanently influence the society because, as a Street Sweeper, he was no longer part of the great WE. The Council of Vocations mandated Equality to life as a Street Sweeper in order to limit his intellectual opportunities.
Equality lives in a collectivist society, which is a society that believes, “that man must be chained to collective action and collective thought for the sake of what is called “the common good.” Therefore, Equality being the person he is, struggles with being an individual. He knows it is against the law but he enjoys knowledge so much, it confuses him. He states, “And in our heart-strange are the ways of evil! - and in our heart there is the first peace we have known in 20 years.”
Equality has a philosophy that should be adopted by everyone. He values individuality. He recognizes how important choice is and how it makes it meaningful life. The three main traits he portrays are being his own person, how choice is paramount, and, the importance of following his gut.

Ayn Rand successfully captures the negatives of an overrated ideology and presents an unorthodox perspective on the matter. In conclusion, Equality's true motives behind his work are much more selfish than they first appear to be. Equality strives to fulfil his own personal desire rather than contribute everything to society, and this isn't necessarily a negative thing.
Equality was like fictional Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or Cesar Chavez, a natural born leader. Equality 7-2521, later renames himself Prometheus because of his belief in individualism. He rejects the collectivist and marxist society that surrounds him. Vain and self-centered, strong, beautiful, and intelligent and is wildly curious, Equality craves freedom to explore and think, and is unafraid of the society. With persistence and strong will for freedom, like any other, Equality was unstoppable.
Equality was born into a situation in which he was personally stripped of making his own decisions and this is what eventually led to his rebellion. When Equality comes across the manhole he finds, he exclaims, “This place belongs to us Equality 7 - 2521, and to no other men on earth. And if we surrender it, we shall surrender our life with it also” (34). Equality finally finds something that he can call his own and someplace he can go to escape. Having some way to escape the reality he was living in brought joy to Equality in a way nothing else could.

Equality is a great idea that we should strive for and achieve; however, being made equal physically and mentally by the government could be very unfair. People should still have characteristics that make us different. One can be diverse but still equal to his neighbor. From the very beginning, Equality had known that he was different, he had an inimitable mentality from his brothers.
