So many people and historical events have had an incredible impact on society and how people of today’s world view stereotypes, women’s rights, and equality. They are why we have the opportunities and rights we do today. Though we are still fighting for equality of everyone, whether it be race, gender, or religion, we have so much to be grateful for.
Contrary to what many people think, feminism is not the idea that women are better than men. It is to believe that men and women should have the same rights and opportunities, to be treated equal. Gender equality means to expect to be treated the same in the workplace, at school, in our homes, and in society.

If they did, as soon as they were married, they were expected to stay home to take care of their husband and children. In the mid 1800's people started to speak up. The realization that the way women were treated was wrong was overcoming many people. The first women's rights convention was held in New York on July 19th 1848, to which over 300 men and women attended. From there on, more and more people spoke up. Numerous organizations fought for women's suffrage, female education rights, and equal personal rights.
