The book I chose was The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. This book was recommended by a college friend of mine and was also on the list for the literary response. The reason why Hemingway wrote this book was in order to depict a story of post World War 1. We can see from this quote that Jake, who is speaking to Georgette, was a veteran of World War 1: “ ‘I got hurt,’ I said. ‘Oh that dirty war.’ We would probably gone on discussed the war...better avoided” (Hemingway 14). Reading this book, I have learned a great deal of information and a strong opinion on it. There are many messages we can learn about this book. People seem to be having hard times but the characters in this book were traveling and trying to forget that the war has happened. This helps them feel temporarily better but not to its fullness. Next, Jake has an injury from war but is not really describe clearly what it is. This injury gave Jake a lot of hardship including finding a partner for his life. When he came very close to finding the love of his life, the girl rejected the offer for another man. Lastly being a bystander. Jake is very observative of his surrounding. The story is about what revolves around him and Jake doesn’t really have a lot of action. Though, throughout the story, there is a more stronger feeling for Brett. Jake describes the place and the feelings of those places. For example, they go to watch Bull Fighting. He doesn’t describe himself but talks about Brett, who he loves very much, fell in love for the performer. We can
