I watched Spinning Into Butter at Nerinx Hall’s Heagney Theatre. There are only seven characters who actually appear on stage, and they are Sarah Daniel, Ross Collins, Dean Catherine Kenny, Dean Burton Strauss, Mr. Meyers, Patrick Chibas, and Greg Sullivan. Simon is also a major character in this play, but he never actually comes out on stage. Lastly, the setting of this play is in Belmont, Vermont at a liberal arts college. Spinning Into Butter is not just about the many issues a college campus has to deal with, but it is about racism.

The play” Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” was an interesting look at bullying through the eyes of teenage peanuts characters. We all remember our innocent childhood friends that walked us through the experiences of life, introducing new ideas and everyday interactions. Well, those kids grew up and Charlie Brown and the crew now show us the reality of the teenage struggles in the 21st century. The interpretation was very insightful and the characters felt real, creating a connection with childhood friends and reminding us of the reasons we loved them.
Imagine losing everything you had, your house, your dad, and all your possessions all of that at the age of 12. Ghastly isn’t it? Well in the story, Esperanza Rising by: Pam Munoz Ryan, Esperanza had to go through all that and shift to America during the Great Depression, and even if you don’t know what that is, you probably know by the looks of it that it is not the most marvelous thing. And you would be right, it’s not. When Esperanza goes to work in America to earn money, there are strikes going on about how people don’t get paid enough for working.

The characters that I think influenced Esperanza in the book her mom because whenever she had a problem or if something was going on in her life and if she thought something was wrong but people still did it like when tito’s friends took her friends key and said they wouldn’t give it back unless she would give each of them a kiss for them back and she did not think that they should make her do that to get her keys back.
This shows that people need to do the right thing no matter how hard it is so that events in real life do not get out of hand like they did in the play and like they did in the real Salem Witch

The cast of the play are unaware of the audience, however, the audience is able to listen to dialogue that occurs throughout the theater, whether it is in the headsets between technicians, on stage between the actors playing their characters in the play and between the director and actors who make adjustments when necessary. The third fourth wall was at its edge of breaking, where the audience is almost unable to tell whether what they are experiencing is real or not. As an observer of the rehearsal of this play, this wall was broken when I understood that what I was watching was a rehersal of a play, of a rehearsal of a play. It was difficult to describe or understand when the cast of 10 out of 12 were actually in or out of character. I liked that Paula Vogel did not hold back and let all of the emotions of the play loose. I am anticipating that I will enjoy the play. I personally think I would like it more if the characters were portrayed by only people rather that people holding puppets, but they have too much symbolic meaning to be left out.
