“An average person takes about 12 steps before they litter.”(“Eye-Opening Statistics”). This is a shocking statistic. An average person shouldn’t even litter, littering harms the environment in many ways. It harms the oceans, each year about 300,000 dolphins die because the government throws the trash littered into the oceans. There are millions of dolphins out in the oceans and they are declining fast because people couldn’t take another 12 steps to get to the trash cans that are all over the place in cities. Teens are the ones who mostly litter. Kamilo, an island in Hawaii is surrounded by thousands pieces of trash. They now call that place the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It used to be a beautiful island but is now ruined by trash. Even Mount Everest has a lot of trash on it. If you can prevent teenagers and adults from littering, the Earth will become healthier and will last longer. The Earth is dying and one of the reasons is too much trash being dumped in trash in the landfills and in the oceans. “Each year 250,000,000 pounds of trash are littered in the U.S.”(“Eye-Opening Statistics”). That is a lot of trash that is in the oceans, streets, and in the wild.
