Love takes time, it is not spontaneous its takes years of being with somebody to actually love them. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare our main characters, Romeo and Juliet, fall in “love” in the first sight of each other but are they actually in love? Romeo and Juliet’s love is not true; their romance will be short-lived and risky. Romeo and Juliet’s love is malignant and is too uncertain; it will only bring undesirable events to both families. Juliet mentions this eminent danger to Romeo, “If they do see thee, they will murder thee” (Act 2, scene ii, L75) Romeo goes as far as to risk his own life and perhaps may have jeopardized his family. It doesn’t make sense to risk one’s own life for a person you just met a few hours earlier. Even Frair Lawrence remarks about Romeo and Juliet’s relationship, “These violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die, like fire and powder” (Act 2, scene vi, L9-10” Frair not only mentions the perilous relation, but also foreshadows Romeo and Juliet’s inevitable demise. Frair additionally mentions that their “love” is only temporary, burning as fast as gunpowder. Romeo refers to Juliet as “Dear Saint”(Act 2, scene ii, L60) Romeo is basically calling Juliet perfect and flawless. This raises there expectation of each other and will cause conflict between them, making their love short-lived. Juliet also addresses Romeo as “God of my idolatry” (Act 2, scene ii, L20) Juliet implies that she worships him and that Romeo is a god. This raises their expectations even higher making it even worse for their relationship.
