Before I started my freshman year, I was terrified to take English composition. I knew that English composition was all about writing essays (no grammar tests, art projects, etc.), and I was a terrible writer. I always struggled to get an A on essays in high school. I struggled with coming up with topics, organization, and grammar. I had an extremely difficult time trying to just start my essay; the hook was always the hardest for me to come up with. I would take me two days to write one paragraph. I had a mild case of writer’s block. I could not think of what to say in the next sentence. I even struggled with coming up with personal statements, which was known to be easy. I always lacked excellent writing skills, as well as creativity. My essays were always bland and boring. It was hard me to write in a nonbiased direction. The public issue I choose was the argument of what components of meat increase the risk of cancer. Although there tons of evidence to support one side of the argument, there was barely any evidence to support the other side of the agreement argument, which also contributed to my struggle in writing paper. Major paper two was the first paper I had ever written from an unbiased standpoint. I understood the meaning of writing an unbiased paper, I just did not know specifically how to write an unbiased paper. It seemed impossible to write a paper about a public issue without an author’s opinion or stance on the issue; however, I fully understood the concept after my professor said that writing an unbiased paper is basically like being a reporter who states no opinion while delivering the news. I definitely developed a skill to write in an unbiased tone while completely major paper
