Road accidents, also referred to as a “traffic collision” or a “motor vehicle accident”, occurs when a motor vehicle that is moving along a roadway strikes or collides another vehicle, a stationary object, a pedestrian or an animal. These are considered as an unplanned and unfortunate event which is a serious concern to the community as well as the authority. Car accidents have serious consequences including property damage, others result in severe injuries and death. All of which are likely to cost someone a lot of money.

It is the most unwanted thing to happen to a road user. Weather and road conditions are a common cause of many road accidents but many accidents are caused by failure of a driver. Some of the major factors that contribute to road accidents are speeding, drunk driving, using a device, red light jumping and poor weather condition.
a) Speeding
One of the main causes of car accidents is the failure to follow the legal speed limit. Driving faster than what is considered safe for the road conditions is considered speeding regardless of the posted speed limit. Speeding can multiplies the risk of accident and severity of injury. A vehicle moving in high speed are more prone to accident and have greater impact during the crush and hence will cause more injuries.
b) Drunk driving
Driving after consuming alcohol is very dangerous and it may causes road accidents. Alcohol reduces the reaction time of the human body and incites them to take risk in doing things that are dangerous. For every increase of 0.05 alcohol concentration in human blood, the risk of accident doubles.
