Did you know that about 95% of animal testing is done on mice, rats and fish? Animal research is testing medicines and vaccines on diseased animals to make sure they work and are safe, we couldn't do this if animals had rights, but without animal testing we would be so much less medical advanced. I believe that animals shouldn't have rights, because animal testing has and will save many lives, there is no good substitute for animal testing or food, and animals don’t have rights.
One reason animals shouldn’t have rights are the life saving medicines and cures discovered by animal testing. The medicine for treating diabetes, insulin, was discovered by animal testing (procon.org). Polio was eradicated because the cure was found through animal …show more content…

Many people have meat as a major part of their diet. Testing on lab mice makes it possible for researchers to see what treatments will do over generations because of their 2 to 3 year long lifespan (procon.org). Whereas Cell cultures can’t simulate the nervous system or immune system, and even the strongest super computers can't simulate a human body. Animals make good test subjects because of similarities and differences.
Finally, animals don’t have rights. If animals had rights we would have to stop hunting, and eating animals, that would put a lot of companies out of business. “Animals don’t have the cognitive ability or moral judgement that humans do” (procon.org). The animal welfare act protects animals and makes sure we treat them well (awionline.org). If animals had rights we would have so much less progress, but many feel sorry for the animals.
On the other hand, many people think animal testing is inhumane. Animals get good out of testing too, for if the treatment is found they too will receive it (healthresearchfunding.org). Animals are also given breaks and toys, so they aren’t stressed and produce better results
