February 05, 2022 Dear Mr. Russ Smith, My name is Aleyana Boothe. I am a junior majoring in Urban Ecology with a minor in Sustainability Studies interested in education at nature preserves and protected land. I am currently a Resident Assistant (RA) in Colonial Square and I am interested in becoming a Senior Resident Assistant (SRA). While at Hofstra University I have become an active member of the community, taking on various leadership opportunities as well as volunteering in Family Weekend with Parent and Family Programs and with the Residence Hall Association last year. Through the various leadership positions I have held, I have become familiarized with aspects of administrative work and the importance of record-keeping and data collection that can be used to make improvements to how an organization operates. Furthermore, I am a detailed oriented individual who enjoys organizing and cataloging. For instance, there may be an observation made that RAs in a complex are having difficulting remembering proper protocol. Although there is a Resident Assistant Manual online that seems to be updated every academic year, I believe it may not cater to all learning styles. For that complex, it may be helpful to have a binder containing the physical copy of that manual available in the RA office that includes visual components such as examples of possible paperwork or slips someone may come across. Since that binder would be located in a secure location it could act as a more in-depth manual of the Standard Operating Procedures for RAs. This binder may help in the ability of certain RAs to retain information better as well as can include a section at the end for new changes to rules and/or duty tasks so everyone is on the same
