Introduction
The world in which we live today may be aptly described as a ‘global village’ (Luhan, 1962 as cited by Nash, 2009). Advances in information and communication technologies have resulted in interconnectedness among the nations of the world unlike any other era in human history. The interdependence and cooperation among peoples have profoundly impacted just about arena of human endeavour. Whether it is trade, culture, business, sports, science and technology or crime fighting, the effect of globalization is readily apparent all around us.

First and foremost, because of its geographical location the region maintains warm temperatures throughout the year. The peak season is usually from December to April when it is cold in North America and Europe. Further, the fact that the islands are only a relatively short distance apart makes it possible for the passengers to wake up to a new destination every morning. Travelling by cruise ship is the least expensive way to see so many territories on a single trip. The proximity of the region to its main markets the United States and Canada is also a huge advantage.
