Jamestown and the Massachusetts bay colonies influenced the growth of the thirteen colonies. These two colonies opened the doors for additional colonies. In 1607 the London Charter company sent 104 men on a boat to explore the new world and get financial profit from their investments in shares of company stock (gold). When they landed they were in what is now present day Virginia they called their colony Jamestown. Jamestown was a perfect place to settle it had fertile soil and the climate was warm. Jamestown did have a minor setback though a cold and harsh winter swept across the land and since most of the people were lazy it was very tough. The food went away very fast and they had to eat leather, a lot of tension grew because people were finding out that most of the rich people were eating the food. That is when John Smith stepped in and told them if you don't work you don't eat. They were still suffering so then John Rolfh came to the rescue by giving them tobacco seeds.
