Both stories, “Of Mice and Men” and “A Raisin in the Sun,” portray the reality of American dreamers failing from the hope that they had but that didn't end up how they wanted and how hope affected how their lives turned out.“Of Mice and Men” is written by John Steinbeck. The book's setting is on a ranch in Soledad, California, during the 1930s. The story centers around George Milton and Lennie Smalls. George is intelligent and a hard worker, but he only has a little education. Lennie is a big and strong guy with limited mental capacity. The conflicts that are faced in the book are what Crooks faces every day, being a different color than the others. George always dreamed of having his land where he could be happy and live the way he wanted without anybody telling him what to do. In the book “A Raisin in the Sun” the family has just moved into their new house and Mr. Linder comes to their house and says, “Our association is prepared, through the collective efforts of our people, to buy the house from you at a financial gain to your family”(Hansberry 118). The family gets upset after Mr. Karl Linder comes and talks to them and tries to take the home that they just bought that had enough room for everyone. He wanted to give them money to buy the house back because they were different from the others. The family was distraught at the fact that their new house that they had dreamed about all went downhill to a man who just wanted them to leave because they didn't fit into the neighborhood. These books show that they all have dreams just like everyone else and that dreams don't always come true. Along with the dreams that were both portrayed in “Of Mice and Men” and “A Raisin in the Sun,” there was hope for the Youngers, but it was just a little different for
