In both the novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and the film Swing Kids conformity and rebellion is used to reveal that no everyone followed Hitler’s lead and many stood up for what they believed but on the other side many people did conform to Hitler’s ideas. Throughout The Book Thief and Swing Kids there are many similarities that help us understand what people went through during the time Hitler took over. Liesel was a nine year old girl who saw her self struggling by adapting to a new family and the Nazi rules , whereas Peter from Swing Kids, was __ old who was also struggling to adapt to the Nazi’s. They had many similarities to each other including that, Liesel had books to rely on during this hard time to where Peter from Swing Kids had swing dancing to rely on, they both went against the Nazi’s rules but realized that they were going to stand up for what the believed in. Liesel became attached to book before she could even read, she would do anything do get a hold of a book that someday she could hopefully read sometime, “She latched onto the closest of the books. It was hot, but it was also wet, burned only at the edges, but otherwise unhurt” (120). Peter relied on Swing Dancing the most, he had a passion for it and didn't care if the Nazi’s banned them from dancing, he would continue to secretly dance. In the movie, Peter is at a Swing Dancing Ball and as everyone is Swing Dancing, the Nazi’s come in the begin to torture and beat everyone, Peter spots his best friend Thomas, Thomas begins to start beating Peter while Peter fights back.
