October 24th, 2017 Plato’s Cave The Matrix and Plato’s Cave share many similarities in their stories. The similarity that stands out the most is the concept of accepting the truth. This can be seen through some of the main characters in each story like Neo and the freed prisoner. Neo is stuck in a fake world run by a computer program called The Matrix. The prisoner has been kept in a cave, unknowing about the world outside of it. Both characters are required to accept truth before they can learn anything more about the worlds they live in. His peers hate what he is saying and believe it is total nonsense. They soon react with a bit of aggressive behavior and eventually talk about killing the prisoner informing them. It is expected that the prisoners in the story of The Matrix would react in a very similar fashion. As humans, our beliefs and ignorance stop us from accepting new thoughts and ideology. This prevents any chance of advancing our knowledge and progressing as people. The prisoners in The Matrix would also be a annoyed with Neo for claiming something different than what the rest of society is accustomed to hear. If I were to be one of the prisoners being told what is true by a stranger like Neo, I would probably react just like the rest of the people because of the same reasoning. When you are born into being told what is right or what is wrong and what is real or what isn’t, you build a defense system in your brain because to protect what you have been taught to believe. That is why it would be difficult for me to believe what Neo is claiming without any physical
