Identify three historic changes in the family that impacted women or men negatively in society, and explain how they impacted woman.

The industrial revolution in the Nineteenth century resulted in more men started working outside the home. Many of the tasks previously performed on the farm was outsourced and specialized. Women were left to take care of the children and the home, work they once shared with their husbands. This new way of life was celebrated, and the new division of duties left women “imprisoned in the home by the new ideology of feminine domesticity.” (Kimmel, 2013, pg. 147) This was a time of decline in women’s status. In the episode I watched, the father went up to Bud’s room to have a man-to-man chat. The father took a serious tone and talked to his son like he would have an old golfing buddy. I’m pretty sure he would have taken on a different tone if he had needed to chat with his daughter. Bud, mortified that his family has learned that he is going to a dance, has locked himself in the basement. I doubt that the daughter would have concealed that she needed learn how to dance, but poor Bud was too embarrassed to ask for help. On top of that, his little sister called him a sissy. I appreciated the youngest child’s behavior. Kathy is a spunky little girl, who seems to have a nose for trouble. Often you would have found her character replaced with a little boy. Having her in the show was refreshing, especially in comparison with the beautiful obedient older daughter and the dutiful wife.
