In The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark William Shakespeare our protagonist Prince Hamlet goes through a moral demise ; he starts his demise by wanting to have revenge for his father's murder but quickly becomes something dark and sinister, a character whose morals become questionable. Hamlet's moral journey starts with his father's murder and from there his moral dilemmas begin. At the start of the play, the ghost of King Hamlet tells his son Prince Hamlet that Claudius committed the murder, this was Shakespeare's way of telling us who Hamlet will want to kill in other words he was foreshadowing what was yet to come. As soon as Hamlet knew of Claudius murderous acts we knew that he would become his nemesis and anyone who associated with him would also be on Hamlet's “hit” list. When Hamlet kills Polonius by accident he does not show much remorse. Hamlet in his mind may have thought this murder was just because of the wrong doings of Laertes and Polonius. One of their misguided acts was their warning of Hamlet's feelings towards Ophelia. In Act I scene III Polonius says to Ophelia “ In few, Ophelia,Do not believe his vows; for they are brokers.” This means that Ophelia should not believe Hamlet's words because they are false promises. Even though when Hamlet and Ophelia finally talk he says some harsh words like “Get thee to a nunnery “ , or “ why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners?” When Ophelia dies he does show some true feelings for her. While she is being buried he jumps into the grave where Laertes is and says in front of everyone “ I loved Ophelia: forty thousand brothers.” So it makes us believe that even though Hamlet treated her harshly and with little respect he did somewhere in his heart care for
