The United States Air Force Bombing Campaigns
The United States of American has participated in over seven wars, and currently participating in three on going wars. Many of these wars have been fought over seas, one of the most widely protested wars, was that of the Vietnam war. During the Vietnam War, the United States military decided to not only fight from the ground but also in the clouds. The United States Air Force decided that a bombing campaign over Southeast Asia would help with defeating the guerilla fighters, from the decision made to start this campaign, to when the official order was made, and just what this campaign did to help in the war efforts. The Vietnam War, started out as a fight over land between the French and the Communist party of Northern Asia. The United States became involved, in the form of being a middle man between France and the North, however, this would soon become a large regret for the United States. During the Operation Rolling Thunder, a total of 8 million bombs were dropped (J.S., 2015).
However, with the change of presidents comes the change of command and operations. As president Nixon took office, the United States involvement in the war was upgraded. President Richard Nixon, created another air campaign against the North, Operation Linebacker (History.com, 2010). Both operations purposes were to cut off the supply line to the Northern Vietnamese, and Chinese fighters.
