The 2022 film, “All Quiet on the Western Front,” is a haunting portrayal of the traumatic realities of World War I, centering around German soldier, Paullistened. The Great War was filled with horrific trench warfare and the movie depicts the brutality and chaos that took place on the front lines. Audiences can see the realities of combat and the toll it takes on the human psyche and spirit. Through the eyes of Paulclimbeder and his comrades, the movie strips away all romanticized ideas of heroism and glory. Paul sees that the soldier is not dying immediately and forces dirt into his mouth to try and suffocate him. Paul is crying and very distraught. He begins to feel bad for stabbing him and tries to save the soldier by putting pressure on the wound. Paul goes through the soldier's personal belongings and pictures and sees that he has his own family. This breaks Paul a lot. He lies on the ground with the French soldier until he eventually dies. Paul had been fighting for his life and had to kill his enemies up close multiple times throughout the movie. But with the French soldier, he was unable to immediately move on due to gunfire and was forced to sit and think about what he had just done close to the dying soldier. He couldn’t disassociate from reality anymore. The morning the war ended, the German soldiers were sent once more to the trenches to attack the French. The German General ordered the soldiers to fight until the war was officially over at 11:00 am. Paul stared out at the General with emptiness in his eyes. The French were celebrating in their trenches, not knowing that the Germans were coming after them. In the end, after gruesome fighting, Paul is stabbed in the chest about 5 seconds before
