Despite what people think books and poems about war don’t have a lot in common. Yes, they are about war, but in different perspectives. I believe that the book All Quiet on The Western Front Is very different from the two poems Ballad of the Three specters and Glory of Women. In the book we follow a soldier named Paul Baumer. We read how he handles the war and how it affects soldiers’ way more than people on the outside of the war. The setting of the book is during the World War 1 right in the Front it's as if we in the trenches there with him. It is written in first person which gives a better effect because you know the experiences were authentic and not just something someone made up. The book goes into more detail about the scenes, for example,in chapter nine when Baumer is walking through a battle field, he describes the bodies that were left and how they looked. While in the poems the writers didn’t put too much time into the details. While the poems focus on someone on the outside of the war waiting for their loved one or they are dead and no longer have to face the wrath of the war the book's main character Baumer is very alive and indulged in the war he shows his fear in every chapter and talks about how lonely he feels or how guilty he feels after killing another man he feels like he is a murder. The women in their life seem to dress them up as heroes and see the people who retire as cowards, but little do they know that their” hero” is afraid and considers himself as a coward. When he speaks to her about his experiences she just simply nods and acts like she understands what he has been through. Which makes him feel empty inside because he realizes that she won't ever understand.
