Introduction In this brief post, I will reflect on the benefits of an annotated bibliography, reorganization of my research and my thoughts on seeking another research strategy as it relates to detailed literature review. Annotated bibliography While creating an annotated bibliography was challenging; and seemed like a daunting task as it was my first time creating one, I found the exercise to be of tremendous value for several reasons. First, it is an aggregator of content that will be a valued resource when the time comes for a dissertation or any term project for that matter. Second, it forces one to thoroughly read the materials placed in the bibliography, as there are detailed notes that are attached to each literature review, that have a clear organizational purpose and structure. Third, creating it helps one weed out articles that does not necessarily fit one’s topic. This element will help to hone in on more precise articles that will bolster one’s ideas in the future through the body of evidence. Forth, it will save time at critical moments when one needs to quickly look up those key theories. Add to this, one could be able to see multiple articles with similar theories without having to spend time researching again and reading from the beginning to pull out key points. It helped me get better organized and gave me an opportunity to learn about headings and subheadings. As a result I did some restructuring of the way I wanted to approach my research. The headings and subheading give a clearer structure of each idea and give licenses for deeper exploration as research is often multi- layered. It is important that each layer have its rightful logical place within the research. I think if I hadn’t started an annotated bibliography it would have taken me a longer time to figure that out.
