About 24 million Americans have some type of eating disorder. Anorexia is one of the three major eating disorders and is the deadliest of the all three. Anorexia is a serious disorder in which only 1 out of 10 people get treated for. Many people might not know what anorexia but it affects millions of lives emotionally, physically, and psychologically. Anorexia isn’t a light disorder either because up to 20% of the people with anorexia will die from it. This paper will discuss what anorexia is, what it does, and how it’s treated. First of all, for the people who don’t know, what is anorexia? Well anorexia is a type of eating disorder when the person obsesses about what they eat and their weight and constantly want to be losing this weight. But that’s not all, they deliberately avoid eating at all, also known as fasting, and they also excessively exercise to try to lose weight. How is it caused? There are places that people with anorexia can go to help themselves medically and psychologically. But there are also problems to this too. One of the problems of treatment is that anorexia is a hard disorder to treat, the reason being that anorexia is a psychological disorder, which means that everything the persons thinks is in their head. To treat someone with anorexia means to change their way of thinking. It would be like someone trying to convince you that your phone ran on magic. The other problem with treating anorexia is that it is expensive. Insurance usually doesn’t cover treatment for anorexia and it can run expensive, up to about $2,500 a day expensive. Not only this but like most disorders people with it usually don’t believe they have a problem until they do , which is why only 1 out of 10 people get treatment for its. So even though anorexia is a treatable disorder it is difficult to cure and expensive
