Those with a mental illness are often subjected to taking several pills or medications at once to be able to live life normally and a lot of people do not realize this nor do they realize the side effects of these medications that they must take in order to be out in the world. There are several different types of medicines, most include pills, liquids and the use of needles, and herbal medicine. When treating a depressed patient in the past it was usually with torture since there must be a devil making that person so sad and apathetic. There are also several different kinds of side effects like dry mouth or drowsiness due to it being able to stabilize one's mood depending on if that drug works on them or not (Goldberg). In some cases there is such thing as a side effect of having suicidal thoughts which, for someone who’s depressed, is not the greatest thing in the world, especially since there are depressed people who have either tried to commit suicide or thought of it (National Institute of Mental Health). Due to this, drugs may not be for everyone and talk therapy is thus used. For people being treated with Schizophrenia they are generally treated with antipsychotics, which help to alleviate hallucinations and other symptoms of schizophrenia (“Antipsychotics”). This can also be used when one has severe depression or bipolar disorder so these three are generally intertwined although each is very different.
