The Renaissance inspired exploration because it made people want to search for new routes to receive certain goods that were hard and expensive to find. The Renaissance was a time of growth and new inventions and new philosophies (History Channel). To being with, Bartolomeu Dias is a Portuguese explorer. “King John II sent Bartolomeu Dias to sail to search for a sea route to India” (History Channel). He was born in the year 1450. Unfortunately, he died at the age 50 due to terrible weather conditions during one of his vogues. During his time of life, he was the first one to “sail the southern tip of Africa” (History Channel). He reached his discovery on March 12, 1488. This was called the Cape of Good Hope (History Channel). Bartolomeu Dias impacted Europe and Asia. In the book A History of Western Society, Volume B Bartolomeu Dias stated himself “to serve God and his Majesty, to give light to those who were in darkness and to grow rich as all men desire to do” (McKay 449). Even so, the discovery of new land helped spread Christianity to other locations. This helped strengthen the churches and the word of Christianity to get more people believing in God and Jesus. He was serving his God to help them open their eyes to religion. The book Faiths across Time: 5,000 Years of Religious History By J. Gordon Melton stated “the Portuguese effort will lead to the significant spread of Christianity” (Melton 1101). In addition, Bartolomeu Dias was a Portuguese explorer who spread Catholicism to the tip of Africa so many people who never believed could believe in God.
