When I started my college search, I was looking for a place that has the best educational opportunities and has a vibrant community of students that support each other. In the ideal school, every student, no matter what their background or their future goals, is working their hardest to be successful while supporting their peers. Baylor is the type of college where students can both be academically successful, live in a community where everyone supports each other like a family, and learn how to live in the global community. When I visited Baylor over the summer, I had the opportunity to visit the music department and learn about my major, instrumental studies and music education, and I also learned about the community in the music department. When I was searching for the room number of the oboe professor, one of the students reached out to me and helped me find her room. When I met Dr. Deloach, I was welcomed by her and I learned about the tight knit community of the oboe studio and the music program at Baylor. I even had the opportunity to play the solo I was working on for Dr. Deloach. She gave me phenomenal advice on how to improve my musical playing and even challenged me to play even better than what was outlined in the music. During my visit, I could see myself fit into the oboe studio and in the music department with all of the musical organizations and activities on campus I learned that the professors in the music department and in the other departments on campus want to challenge their students so they can become successful in their field.
