In American society, breaking norms is an idea that was started by the Founding Fathers when they said to King George it is time to start a new country without your ridiculous rule and laws. Since then, that has been the model that Americans follow because it gives the impression of being “cool” and “hip”. The media is one of the leading players in influencing and socializing Americans and today, acts of deviance, more than ever, are glorified on Television, for example, Impractical Jokers. Society loves to laugh and watch theses norms being broken. There is an appetite and market for YouTube clips or Televisions shows about creating acts of deviance. It was important to make sure the weather was nice because there was a greater chance of running by folks. The norm that is being broken that one is not supposed to be dressed up like that to workout and a young adult dressed up like a child. There is also an underline mockery of the running community because dressing up as if the activity of running is a joke and child’s play. The routine needed to be the same. Only then, can the reactions from the individuals and myself can genuine. At first, it was very uncomfortable to be part taking on an assignment like this or breaking an unwritten code of society. There are certain individuals who are able to make a mockery out of themself and that is not me. Becoming an outsider of society, even if it is very silly, is an idea that others and myself hate to be part of. There was some feeling of that and a ton of nerves before I set off, but once I started the run everything felt normal until I started to pass by kids, cars, and parents.
