Civil engineers are essential for a community to sustain its growth. Horikawa (2009) defined engineers as the people who build structures to satisfy the needs of humans in their life by applying science and mathematics as a process. When the knowledge, experience, science and mathematics are combined, the building of structures, machines, numerous products, and systems are controlled. Also, civil engineers provide solutions to improve the infrastructures of a community for the nation to become more active on its living (Maschke, 2012). It involves the building of bridges, finding the easiest ways for transportation and building structures for their economy. In the past, the engineering profession and its education altered the critical challenges in the society. However, as the technology is changing rapidly, the engineering education does not follow the same pace, which resulted for the society to face grand challenges. The United States’ former President, Barack Obama, stated in 2012 that there is an increasing need of American students to improve their participation of performance in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The United States of America wanted to add civil engineering to their subjects to make students feel very valuable in the field of civil engineer as to what the other states have. While in the Philippines, according to Oretta and Balili (2015), the education for civil engineers strengthens. Schools, such as De La Salle University in Manila, address specific student’s outcome to their curriculum, which offers enhancement of knowledge in mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering sciences using the modern tools in their major and specialized courses in their senior
