The authors of the textbook think highly of college-educated police officers. While they did not directly say it, I would infer that the authors would support college education being mandatory for entrance into the police academy. The authors think that college educated officers are better at a range of things from their interactions with others to their critical thinking skills.

One other supporting reason is that college educated officers are more interactive with offenders and witnesses. This is important given how witnesses can hold crucial information, and interacting with offenders is a very common aspect of policing. Overall, the authors give many supporting reasons to their stance, and they all point to the concept that college educated people are better for police agencies.
I mostly agree that college educated officers are better at the job. To start, college educated officers have better cooperation skills. Many college students live in a small dorm with someone they do not know all too well. Because of this, they must become very good at working with others and understanding other people’s perspectives. This could translate to a better ability to work with other officers/ staff while on the job. Also, I believe that college educated officers would be better at the desk work side of policing. College involves a lot of writing and time management. With this, college educated officers would be more proficient at writing up reports
