Is Congress Losing Visibility in Contemporary Popular Media? It seems Congress is vastly overlooked in comparison to the President. Considering public opinion polls, this paper will divulge into the Publics’ opinion regarding Congress and its invisibility. Also, exploring the news in the contemporary popular media, the broadcasts’ negativity and positivity, and how contemporary television depicts our Congress. Finally considering how Congress’ visibility influences the publics’ voting and participation in elections. Congress Vs. Presidents Visibility In the Constitution of the United States it gives little guidance on the presidential administrative duties it states, “the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America,” and that “he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” These words have been interpreted to mean that the president is to offer leadership and supervise various departments, agencies, and programs created by Congress. (K. Janda, 2016) In comparison to the President, the Constitution specifically grant Congress the most important power, the authority to make laws. A law, only becomes a law after both the House of Representatives and the Senate have approved it in the same form. The answer is rather complicated, there are many reasons. Our President is a media magnet because he is a single individual at the hub of the executive branch, it’s more difficult for media reporters to cover Capitol Hill. Congress has many potential newsmakers and story lines that take journalists time and energy to track down.
