Relations between Cuba and the United States aren’t the best at the moment. With the Cuban Embargo still imposed upon Cuba, the people are suffering. It started in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy made the embargo official after years of tension. Now, the embargo continues to put a set of restrictions on Cuba, not allowing them to get the resources they need to come out of their cycle of poverty. The issue of lifting or maintaining the embargo has passed through the UN many times, each time the votes leaning in favor of keeping it in place. As mentioned before, this issue has presented itself in front of the UN many times, and each time it’s been in favor of keeping the embargo. Bolivia does not agree with this. With more leeway, the Cuban people can finally get proper healthcare, better living conditions, and find a way out of the endless poverty cycle they face. Bolivia is aware how against lifting the embargo other countries are, so the proposal of loosening the embargo has been presented. This would, of course, be voted on, but the United States is the one who will need to make the actual suggestion go through. If they could even allow a few restrictions to be dropped, even internet access, Bolivia believes it could greatly affect Cuba’s economy and people, and in turn the rest of the world, including Bolivia. The Cuban people do not deserve the oppression they go through because of the embargo. As mentioned before, it is inhumane. Even if this is not possible, the United Nations needs to take a close look at the injustice occurring in Cuba, especially the United Nations Human Rights Council, or HRC. If a different approach is taken, as long as the people of Cuba aren’t forced to suffer more than they already are, Bolivia is willing to take a different course of action, but within humane and justifiable
