The first amendment of the U.S. Constitution's Bill of Rights states, "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech or the right of the people to peacefully assemble"(U.S Const. Am.1.).This quote means that under U.S. law that every citizen has the right to say anything and the right to protest only if it is not illegal or disrespecting the rights of others. This right is the foundation of America. This created freedom for all and a sense of individualism. Lately many Americans have been protesting the newely elected president Donald Trump's exective order on immigration and another protest that began in late 2016 was Colin Kaepernick and other NFL football players protested the unarmed shooting of African-American men. All of these protest let U.S. citizen's voices be heard and feelings be felt across America. On Election Day on 1920, millions of Americans exercised the right to vote for the first time. This would not have been able without speeches, signed petitions, pardade marching and support of Americans. Having the right to protest gives American's reasons to express on any domestic policies. In 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. led more than 200,000 demonstrators to taake part in the civil rights March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in the nation's captial.This protest was successful in pressuring the adminstration of John F. Kennedy to intitate a strong civil rights bill in Congress. During this event, King gave his most memorable "I Have a Dream" speech.
