Have you ever walked to a different room, but once you are there, you completely have forgotten what your purpose was? Maybe you have caught yourself staring completely zoned out, well this is what it's like to have multiple personalities. Dissociative identity disorder is when someone's brain splits or creates a different personality to help the host, the main persona that usually has dominant control, cope with difficult situations. How this might work? Say a young child was abused in any way, their brain can create a personality that deals with these situations. The child may not remember them as an adult, but will believe that a stronger person helped them through it, almost like an imaginary friend.
