Take a walk downtown of any major city in the great country of the United States Of America and you are guaranteed to see a handful of people from different ethnic groups with each having their own religious beliefs, ancestry, languages, clothing styles, and even physical appearances. Americans are notorious for criticizing diverse people. For example, Middle Easterns are looked at as terrorists, African-Americans are looked at as gang members, and Mexicans are looked at as illegal aliens all because of their race. The word diversity in America is known as the blending of different ethnic groups. There is also many other races of people holding a position throughout the government voted in by the people of the united states. However, this is not proof the country as a whole is “super-diverse”. Bobo mentions, “I don't mean this as just another celebration of the political coalition that has twice elected Barack Obama.” The thought behind this statement to give the mindset to people the country may be diverse given the fact there are other races throughout the government from top to bottom. Although this does not directly correlate to the citizens, the ones who make this place we live in “one nation under god”, holding super-diversity characteristics. Bobo does not mean diversity can not be found throughout the country, but he is not saying you can find it everywhere you go either.
