Electoral College Hello class, I am……Today, I will share ideas with you about the origins, structure, functions and give a personal reflection on the US Electoral College. The origin of the Electoral College is the constitution. It became an establishment that was discovered by some of the founding fathers who laid it down as a process. Majorly, it is more of a reconciliation tool between vote in congress and the popular votes of qualified citizens. All these activities are for the presidential activities. The process consists of the electors who are about 538 in number. The elector are said to be participating in different roles after they have been chosen through the selection process. Each and every candidate vying for President is then represented at least by one group. However, the political parties during the process of Electoral College are then given the responsibility of choosing the electors. Though, the structure of Electoral College explains how the laws within the states can bring the difference on how the electors are chosen. In the Electoral College process, after the elections of the Presidential candidates are over, certificates are prepared. This certificate is known as the Certificate of Ascertainment comprising of a list of every Presidential candidate in individual states. The names of the electors are also included in the same list. The certificate remains as part of reference whereby before the meeting of the electors during the election period, it declares the winning presidential candidate in individual states. The electors, who are chosen through the Electoral College, are expected to attend meetings after the Presidential election is over. The purpose of this meeting is to enable them cast their votes. They cast the votes separately on different ballot boxes. The separate ballot boxes are the Presidential and the Vice Presidents ballot boxes. The work of the Electoral College is then to take the elected candidates votes to the Congress. The state electors are penned in the certificate prepared by the electors.
