In Shakespeare’s Othello appearances are not only deceiving, but deadly. Much like a modern-day drama, jealousy, betrayal, and the wielding of power drive the storyline. Fake News, now a household phrase, continues to proliferate whether to uphold power, destabilize the status quo, or to disrupt completely the chain of command as it runs rampant through society. A recent events where fake news came into play is during the presidential election. A recent event that had false information in it is the presidential election. “People have been planting half-truths and outright lies designed for public for consumption forever.” (Woolsey,2016) This is explaining that there has been fake news in the past. This is important because it helps confirm that fake news is happening in our society. “Governments, political organizations, and people simply hoping to advance different point of view, have used the tool of disinformation forever.” (Woolsey,2016) This highlighting an idea on what fake news is used for. This is important because it connects fake news to misleading others. "All this amounts to a flight from the real world because the only way to sustain the spectacle is by making things ever more spectacular, and thus ever more fake." (Horvat II,2017) This is explaining how sometimes the more interesting an informative is the more fake it can be. With knowing that the media wants the consumer to get what they put out, people can conclude that there is fake news in our society.
