During my years in FFA, my knowledge and appreciation has grown for agriculture. Agriculture was and still is the foundation of our country. I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds – just as the creed states. Agriculture means, to me, a way of life. The section of the FFA creed that relates the most to me states, “I believe that to live and work on a good farm, or to be engaged in other agricultural pursuits, is pleasant as well as challenging; for I know the joys and discomforts of agricultural life and hold an inborn fondness for those associations which, even in hours of discouragement, I cannot deny.” Even though I have grown up on a “hobby” farm, I have learned so much regarding agriculture. Agriculture provides young children and adults with responsibility whether it's raising livestock or growing crops, it is alive and needs care. Agriculture is an ongoing job with no end. To me, it is both a hobby and a passion. My love started when I was younger, I grew up helping my dad with a large garden and a small fruit orchard of about 30+ trees. Then, we started raising hogs to butcher ourselves and chickens for egg consumption. Though I was never in 4H (I wish now, that I had been), I found my place in FFA when I reach high school. I soon got involved in the showing aspect of agriculture, and I love it. By being involved in FFA, I had to take an agriculture class each year, which has expanded my knowledge and increased my love. I have participated in many events through FFA. I have gained even more respect for each and every farmer/farm, whether it be a factory farm or a local, small scale farm.
