What do you think of when you think of football? Touchdowns, or maybe even the NFL? Do you even think about the concussions, crippling diseases or even the Alzheimer's disease that your child can develop just from playing?Well these are consequences that are definitely apart of football and we need to look more into this kind of stuff to protect these young kids so it won't affect them later in the future. Researchers have found a disease and discover significant amount of it in males who had participated in amatuer contact sports in their youth. Kids that are playing contact such as football have been getting serious injuries and although death is rare in the sport the leading cause of death from the sport is brain injury. In the article Sports Related Traumatic Injuries “CTE occurs when a protein called tau accumulates in the brain. The symptoms of CTE are similar to Alzheimer’s disease because tau deteriorates brain cells. Multiple concussions, either consecutively or across many years of playing a contact sport, build up tau in the brain. Although other TBIs can be diagnosed by scanning the brain, CTE only can be found after death.” (Sports Related Traumatic paragraph 11)CTE only been found in some legend footballs like Mike Webster, Junior Seau and Ken Stabler. We are not sure how many other players who have this disease. It causes depression, control problems, aggression, and paranoia. Another quote from the article Sports Related Traumatic Injuries “CTE was originally associated with boxing until Webster’s diagnosis. Since then, the disease has become closely linked to professional football. In the past few years, the NFL has donated millions of dollars to CTE research. As of 2016, no cure for CTE existed, and it could only be diagnosed after death.” (Sports Related Traumatic paragraph 12) NFL has send millions of dollars to find out the cure for CTE for the safety of their players so they wouldn’t have to worry about it later on in the future but as of today there still isn’t a cure for
