A SURVEY ON MODEL FREE APPROACHES OF GAIT RECOGNITION M.Aasha #1, Dr.S.Sivakumari#3 1,2Dept. of Computer Science & Engg., Avinashilingam University for Women, Coimbatore 1arathil800@gmail.com 2hodcseau@gmail.com Abstract: The gait recognition system is becoming an increasingly important means for identification of humans in this present world. Identifying humans at a distance has gained much importance among researchers and is a growing field of biometrics. .Gait recognition helps to identify people by the way they walk. This paper deals with an overview of different model free gait recognition methods and the work carried out in this field of research. KEYWORDS Gait Recognition, Feature extraction, Gait energy Image, EnDFT. I. Introduction Person authentication using arbitrary views is posing a challenge especially for applications such as banks, login systems and high security environments. Human gait is a solution to these problems as it can be identified from a distance. Gait is a form of biometric that is efficient in identifying a person . The mathematical modeling and research on human gait finds wide applications in areas like parking …show more content…

While recording gait care should be taken that it is performed in a uniformed background as far as possible. In addition to this videos should be recorded at an appropriate view point. Usually people should be walking in such a way that the direction of their walking should be perpendicular to the optical axis of the camera. A process called background subtraction is done to separate the background from the walking video sequence. The next important step in gait recognition is extraction of signals from the gait video sequence called feature extraction. The final step is recognition which involves comparing the extracted gait features with the features stored in the database. The figure 1.1 below gives a basic steps involved in a gait recognition
