Hamlet is one of Shakespeare’s more interesting characters. Romeo, Juliet, and MacBeth were all great characters but they were not as crazy as the young Prince Hamlet. Throughout the entirety of the play Hamlet was faced with challenges and difficulties but did not face them in a logical way. Instead he had the tendency to have a melancholy reflection about the situation. Hamlet’s tendency to reflect in a melancholy way instead of assessing the situation in a logical way led to his unfortunate demise in the end. From the time we are introduced to Hamlet to the end of his short life, he has what seems to be a dark cloud over his head at all times. His sad and somber way of thinking about things was essentially the entire tone of the play. Given Hamlet’s situation, the play could have easily gone another direction. For instance, If he was no longer grieving and had accepted the fact that his mother had married to quickly, then the tone entire play would be flipped. When he meets the ghost of his dead father he would be angry, of course, but he would have a more logical way of thinking. He would assess the best way to go about killing his uncle. By doing that he would more than likely kill his uncle with no evidence leading anyone to think that he did it, much like his uncle did when he murdered King Hamlet. But, as reiterated from earlier, if Hamlet was stuck in the stage of anger then he would be more irrational than he already was. When he meets the ghost of his dead father and is told of the truth of his death then he could have a much different response as opposed to the original play. Hamlet would immediately rush to find his uncle and kill him right then and there. As stated by Claudius to Laertes,“Why to a public count I might not go, is the great love for the general gender bear him” (IV.vii.17-18). By saying this he is saying that the people of Denmark love Hamlet. If Hamlet were to kill Claudius right then and there he would lose all the respect and love that the people of Denmark have for
