The Harlem Renaissance occurred during a very hard time for african americans in america were treated poorly and segregated from the white people. Harlem was an african american area of New York and they installed a new sense of what they were and it gave them pride and determination to fight for their equal rights. Another thing that happened was the revival of african american culture and the people of Harlem would play music, dance, make art, make plays and other things too, to remember their culture and have fun. The new identity of African Americans also gave them the motivation to fight for equal rights and it raised awareness in the community that the way that they had been treated wasn’t fair. According to an article in the National Museum of African American History and Culture, The Harlem Renaissance ultimately set the stage for the civil rights movement and changed the community forever. The pride and new idea of themselves that they gained in the renaissance still sticks with them today. The culture that was created during the Harlem renaissance is in fact still a big part of the African American community which are mainly the musical, theatrical and visual arts elements of the renaissance. People migrating from the south brought new cultures up north which brought things like jazz, art and plays. According to the website called Black New York there was an explosion of Jazz music in the Harlem renaissance that vocalized the nightlife. It also says that Jazz was a fast paced music that encouraged dancing.
