• Henrietta is the main chicken or character, who loves to read and is very helpful and caring. Her famous skill that makes her well known is that she can read. The aunties are Henrietta’s chicken aunts who are in danger but does not notice it. They are not the nicest to Henrietta because of her reading skills. • The illustrations in this story are wonderful. They looked to be mainly of collage style, and the chickens’ feathers are much textured. While the objects, like the soup cans, seem to look like real labels. The illustrations bring more life to the story more than the text does. Her aunts are always telling her though that she needs to get her beak out of the books and start laying eggs and not be lazy, but Henrietta likes to read and does not want to quit. Her aunts get to go on a vacation because they have been busy laying their eggs, but Henrietta has to stay back at the farm because she has been busier reading than laying eggs for the farmer. When the aunts get loaded up for their vacation though and leave Henrietta notices that the side of the truck says “Souper Soup Company” and she realizes she has to get her aunts out of that truck before they get ate! On her way to get her aunts, back though she hopped onto a truck filled with pigs that thought they were also going on vacation until Henrietta read the truck sign and told them it said: “Saucy Sausage Company” and they were going to be ate! Henrietta left and told the pigs they need to get away and learn how to read so it does not happen again. Her next truck she landed on was filled with cows who also thought they were headed on a vacation trip until Henrietta read the truck sign and told them they were going to be made into burgers as the sign read “Happy Hamburger Company.” Henrietta and the cows ran out of the truck and she told them they need to learn how to read because reading can save your life. Henrietta finally got to the company where her aunts were and she read the signs to figure out where her aunts
