As a tutor, a mentor, a freshmen activities leader, and a big sister, I have learned the value of being the guide in a person’s life. Stepping back to see the progress an individual has accomplished with the small aid you have given them in pushing them in the right direction is unlike any other feeling. It is this feeling of contentment that awaits those that dare to push the limits, those who realize that there is no truer emotion than of pouring all your effort into something greater than yourself. It is far more rewarding than any petty trophy received from the accomplishment of a solitary activity. Taking part in the growth of an individual into his best self- becoming “many shades greener” with the “gentle rain” I have showered over him is truly inspiring. It is at moments like these when a kid emerges on the other side as a changed person that I become completely engulfed in the now.
