The education system is a very important and equally controversial issue worldwide. One controversial issue in education is whether or not students should have the freedom to choose electives. One side of the argument says that students should not have a say in whether or not they are allowed to choose specific classes, like schools in China. The other side of the argument says that students should be allowed to choose the few classes not required for freedom and as some say in their personal education. Both sides are very thought out and both well developed. The clear choice has not yet been decided and may never be the same for every country.

The main question of this essay is, “Should high school students be allowed to choose electives?”. This question is widely disputed, but studies show that the majority of Americans believe that our students should be allowed to choose these few classes as long as we graduate high school with the required credits needed to get into college. If China is clearly more educationally advanced and they cannot choose their classes in high school are these two things even related? Personally I do believe they are related. I also believe that America could pass up China when it comes to education if we took advantage of being able to choose these classes in high school. American is an extremely intelligent country and many students come here from around the world for many reasons. Some students come to America for job opportunities and some students come here for our colleges. Overall I do not believe that students in America are taking advantage of our education system and opportunities for something little like being able to choose a few classes in high school. I also believe that that little freedom of being able to choose electives in high school, if used in the correct way, can lead to educational advancement and the ability to challenge ourselves as students to try and compete with other countries that are clearly more superior when it comes to
