Each person or group has their own way to protect themselves from having to face other people who think they can take over. The Constitution is a framework of government that is supported by specific laws. It was written in 1787 in Philadelphia. How was the Constitution protected from tyranny? Tyranny is when one person or a certain group, like a king or dictator, tries to put all of the power in their hands and they try to take over. The first guard against tyranny was Federalism which means that the powers are divided by state and central governments. Two pieces that make up Madison's compound government are "Powers Given to the Central Government" and "Powers Given to the States". Some examples of the powers given to the central government are regulate trade, conduct foreign relations, and declare war. Some examples for states government is to set up local government, hold elections, and establish schools. Federalism protects against tyranny because by separating between two different types of government then their is less chaos when it comes to voting and making laws and the state government controls smaller things like elections and building places there. …show more content…

One example that is stated by James Madison was "Liberty requires that the three great departments of power should be separated and distinct' This quote means that by separating the different powers instead of letting them all control together then they wont try to control the other branches. Separation of Powers protects against tyranny by separating the different branches so a big long dispute doesn't take
