Today, 1 in every 6 people in America face hunger. The USDA defines “food insecurity” as the lack of assess, at times, to enough food for all household members. In 2011, households with children reported a significantly higher food insecurity rate than households without children: 20.6% vs 12.2%. In 2013, 17.5 billion households were food insecure and 49 million Americans struggled to put food on the table every day. More and more people are relying on food banks and pantries. We, as Americans, need to find a way to end hunger for our nation.
Community Link is one way to start the ending of hunger in America. Community Link is an all-year round organization that provides food, meals and household supplies to the people that need it the most in our town of Saginaw, Texas. This Christmas holiday season Community Link will be hosting a Christmas Event where the organization will be accepting toy donations for the children of the families they provide for. There are multiple locations to drop off toys; Saginaw Fire Department, 2J’s Automotive, Star Bank of Texas, Ballard Family Dentistry, and the Hollenstein Career and Technology Center. This event is a great opportunity to give families a very happy, merry Christmas. Every child deserves to wake up on Christmas morning to presents from the people they care about and love. The Christmas Event will take place at the Community Link building on Saginaw Main, welcoming donations of any kind not just toys for the children. There will be a lunch served, live Christmas music, and games will be at the event for the volunteers and families that come
