Many people use hypnotherapy to rid of phobias, relieve anxiety and depression, and to even quit smoking. Hypnotherapy is an incredibly powerful therapeutic technique that when performed wrong could be dangerous. It is important that the patient trust their hypnotherapist before undergoing hypnotherapy; hypnotherapists should be highly trained in the art of hypnosis before performing any type of therapy. People struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder may benefit extensively from this form of therapy. A patient is relaxed and the traumatic memory or event is released from their subconscious memory. Once the event or memory is brought to the surface, the patient can go through psychotherapy to further heal the trauma. Hypnotherapy can also be very dangerous. Hypnotherapy should not be practiced on anyone who is uses or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Hypnotherapy should also not be conducted on anyone with psychotic disorders or experience hallucinations or delusions.
